 Hannukah Day 1

Mitzvot!
The story goes like this - long times ago, there was a Greek king Antiochus.
Apparently, he didn't really like the Jews (he thought they made fun of him or something..) so he took control over our Temple, destroyed it and banned them from keeping the Mitzvot. If someone was found doing a mitzva (like learning Torah) he killed him right away. The Jews couldn't stand that kind of situation so they made a revolt against that.
At that time, there was a man called Matityahu and his sons known as the Maccabim. They were originally called 'Khashmonayim' and they were the Royal Family. They started the revolt! They could't stand watch how the greeks are making the Jews pray to Idols!
It's important to say that Jewish people started to become Greek and went after the greek culture and that's against the Torah..
Matityahu made the Jews united against the Greeks and after he died his sons continued what he started.
After that there was a big war - Jews against Greeks. But it wasn't a fair war since there were only a few Jews and many many Greek soldiers! But one of the miracles is that we won! It was unbelievable!! After the Jews won they conquered back the Temple and cleaned it from the Idols that the Greek put there and looked for an oil to lit the Menorah. So then there was the miracle on the oil jug.
And the name Hanukkah actually means "housewarming". It's because we got the Temple back and could keep the Mitzvot freely again.
